Basketball Preview: Apprentice Academy Red Wolves vs. Queen's Grant Stallions
Apprentice Academy is 0-6 against the Stallions since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Apprentice Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
The matchup between Apprentice Academy and the Comets last Thursday hardly resembled the 0-0 effort from their previous meeting. Apprentice Academy was beaten by the Comets 100-23. Apprentice Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 72-16.
Despite the loss, Apprentice Academy got a solid performance out of Radear Watson, who scored 16 points. That was a full 69.6% of Apprentice Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 90-54, which was the final score in Queen's Grant's tilt against the Patriots on Friday. While losing is never fun, Queen's Grant can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Patriots are ranked 188th).
Apprentice Academy's loss was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Queen's Grant, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season.
Apprentice Academy was dealt a bruising 101-53 defeat at the hands of the Stallions in their previous matchup back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Apprentice Academy was down 64-31.
