Middletown not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 22-0). They put the hurt on the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks with a sharp 17-5 victory. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 5-1 victory on Monday.

Bethannie French made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Diaz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Isabella Platero was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Middletown now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Newburgh Free Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middletown will head out to face off against Goshen Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Newburgh Free Academy, they will face off against Monroe-Woodbury at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Goldbacks surely won't give up without a fight.
