Recap: Southside Southerners vs. Camden Fairview Cardinals
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Southside Southerners can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 47-30 to Camden Fairview. Southside's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Southside still got an impressive performance from Gabe Witt, who rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Witt was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Isaac Wallis was another key contributor, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Camden Fairview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trent Haygood led the charge by rushing for 274 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrell Atkins Jr, who threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.
Southside's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Camden Fairview, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Southside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Camden Fairview will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Parkview at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Parkview knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Camden Fairview likes a good challenge.
