Basketball Recap: Discovery Canyon Comes Up Short

Discovery Canyon was the 66-31 winner over Cheyenne Mountain when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Discovery Canyon Thunder took a 56-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks on Thursday. The Thunder have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Discovery Canyon lost, don't look at Taylor McCann. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave McCann a new career-high. Natalie Neuhaus was another key player, putting up 14 points and five assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cheyenne Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Judi, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. Judi continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maya Stepan, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Discovery Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 8-13.

Discovery Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 39-37 defeat against Lewis-Palmer on the 19th. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-9 loss against Palmer Ridge on the 19th.
