Baseball Recap: Elba Starts Season with Victory Against Goshen

Elba had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Goshen Eagles a 4-0 shutout on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2022.

Brady Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Jay Wilson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he also posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaden Baker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

This is the second loss in a row for Goshen and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Elba will have a chance to go back-to-back against Goshen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
