Baseball Game Preview: Bear Lake Lakers vs. Benzie Central Huskies

The Bear Lake Lakers are taking a road trip to challenge the Benzie Central Huskies at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Bear Lake was handed a 13-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Mesick a 2-0 shutout. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Benzie Central beat Onekama 3-0 on Tuesday.

Matthew Ockert looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Lane Sanchez was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Logan Osborne was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Benzie Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Onekama only posted a batting average of .200.

Bear Lake's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Benzie Central, their record now sits at 3-4.

Everything went Bear Lake's way against Benzie Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Bear Lake made off with a 10-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
