Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. Calhan Bulldogs

Make it four blowout wins for the Burlington Cougars this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Calhan 56-19 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-14.

It was another big night for Kiyarra Williams, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Reagan Simpson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Calhan saw an underclassman step up: Savannah Stewart scored seven points.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Calhan struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Burlington's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Calhan, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Burlington and Genoa-Hugo/Karval will face off at 3:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Genoa-Hugo/Karval focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 on Saturday. As for Calhan, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Miami-Yoder at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Miami-Yoder is ranked 226th, while Calhan is ranked 248th).
