Preview: Holy Cross Knights vs. Cypress Christian Warriors
Holy Cross is 0-3 against Cypress Christian since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Holy Cross Knights will square off against the Cypress Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Holy Cross sitting on nine straight wins and Cypress Christian on five.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holy Cross had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 66-6 win over the Broncos at home. Holy Cross might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 33 points or more this season.
Among those leading the charge was Gibby Alvarado, who threw for 170 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punched in a rushing scores. Holy Cross also got help from Nicholas Hall who showed off his sure hands for 95 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Cypress Christian stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Geneva, posting a 55-6 victory on the road.
Holy Cross' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.36 points. As for Cypress Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Holy Cross came up short against Cypress Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 36-32. Can Holy Cross avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
