Preview: Spruce Timberwolves vs. West Mesquite Wranglers
The Spruce Timberwolves will head out on the road to square off against the West Mesquite Wranglers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Spruce comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Spruce suffered their biggest loss since December 13, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by North Mesquite on the road and fell 69-32. Spruce was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-13.
Meanwhile, West Mesquite beat Conrad 48-36 on Tuesday. Given West Mesquite's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Conrad is ranked 923rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spruce bumped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for West Mesquite, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-5.
Things could have been worse for Spruce, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-39 loss to West Mesquite when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Spruce avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
