Basketball Recap: Wheatland Takes Down Ranked Laramie

On Friday, Wheatland faced Laramie in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Wheatland Bulldogs walked away with a 53-44 victory over the Laramie Plainsmen.

Wheatland found their leader in sophomore Lily Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Anderson has scored at least a third of Wheatland's points. Another player making a difference was Tayen Wakkuri, who posted seven points and six boards.

Wheatland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Ava Krueger and Izzi Mcintyre certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Krueger put up 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Mcintyre had 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Krueger a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Stacy Ruggles, who posted five points.

Wheatland's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Laramie, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.

Wheatland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-61 loss against Campbell County on the 11th. As for Laramie, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-29 victory against Riverton on the 11th.
