Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Comes Up Short

St. Augustine and Leon squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but St. Augustine had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Leon Lions by a score of 56-53. The Yellow Jackets have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Leon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aaron Pensel out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Pensel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 16 times he's played. DeKendrick Williams was another key player, going 7-for-17 on his way to 15 points and seven steals.

St. Augustine's defeat dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Leon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

St. Augustine does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Leon, they will face off against Fleming Island at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Fleming Island will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Leon surely won't give up without a fight.
