Baseball Game Preview: Jonesville Comets vs. Manchester Flying Dutchmen

The Jonesville Comets will venture away from home to square off against the Manchester Flying Dutchmen at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jonesville will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Jonesville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Homer, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Comets blew past the Trojans 16-1 on Friday. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Devan Herendeen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Carson Young was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kade Shannon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Jonesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.

Meanwhile, Manchester came up short against Michigan Center on Friday and fell 7-3.

Jonesville pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Manchester, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
