Softball Recap: University City Takes a Loss

University City extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-13-1 in the process. They lost 15-1 to the Clairemont Chieftains. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Centurions have suffered against the Chieftains since April 29, 2016.

University City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Castillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Clairemont, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. 15 seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Clairemont's side, Gigi Villalpando spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

At the plate, Maelea Silao was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Maddy Finley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Coming up, University City will face off against Olympian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Clairemont, they will challenge Scripps Ranch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chieftains' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
