Preview: Palm Desert Aztecs vs. La Quinta Blackhawks
The Palm Desert Aztecs will head out on the road to face off against the La Quinta Blackhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Palm Desert focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
Palm Desert has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season. They blew past Xavier Prep 76-42 on the road. Given Palm Desert's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Xavier Prep is ranked 1166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palm Desert's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Coby Christensen , who scored 20 points. Wil Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, La Quinta's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shadow Hills.
Palm Desert has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for La Quinta, they bumped their record down to 3-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Palm Desert strolled past La Quinta in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 54-39. Does Palm Desert have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Quinta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
