Baseball Recap: Wiregrass Ranch Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Wiregrass Ranch ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Wesley Chapel Wildcats 4-3. That's two games straight that the Bulls have won by just one run.

Will Powell made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wiregrass Ranch's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Powell was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Powell wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was AJ Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Gomez a new career-high.

The victory made it two in a row for Wiregrass Ranch and bumps their season record up to 5-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Wesley Chapel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season.

Wiregrass Ranch will take on Zephyrhills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wesley Chapel will be paying especially close attention to the Bulls' matchup: after the Bulls face off against the Bulldogs, they'll take on Wesley Chapel again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
