Softball Recap: Manchester Comes Up Short

Manchester extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-7 in the process. They came up short against the Glastonbury Guardians, falling 7-0. If the Red Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Guardians when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Izabella Derench ?26 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Glastonbury, the win got them back to even at 8-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Glastonbury's side, they let Brooke Schlenger and Ryley Handrahan run wild. Schlenger went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Handrahan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Schlenger has posted since back in April.

Coming up, Manchester will venture away from home to challenge Simsbury at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Glastonbury, they will head out to square off against Windsor at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.63 runs per game on average), something the Guardians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
