Basketball Recap: Jacksonville's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Jacksonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Havelock Rams. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Jacksonville lost, don't look at Ra-Shawn Echols. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Echols has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Christian Peaks was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Jacksonville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Jaylen Hewitt continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Havelock, going 7 of 13 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Javontae Barrie, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Jacksonville's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-7. As for Havelock, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Jacksonville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-57 win against D.H. Conley on the 9th. As for Havelock, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-46 victory against Pamlico County on the 8th.
