Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hastings

Hastings extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 10-8 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Briarcliff Bears. The Yellow Jackets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.

The team relied heavily on Kieran McGrath, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Hastings is undefeated when McGrath posts one or more home runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Julius Stephens was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Briarcliff, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4. The game marked their lowest-scoring match so far this season.

On Briarcliff's side, Max Amador was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Amador has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Amador wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Hastings will have a chance to go back-to-back against Briarcliff: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
