Softball Recap: Central Valley Comes Up Short

If Central Valley was feeling good fresh off their 15-7 takedown of Yreka last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Falcons lost 10-4 to the Lassen Grizzlies on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 5-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Joleen Short spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hazel Chavez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Central Valley's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Lassen, their win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Valley will square off against University Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Lassen, they will take on Yreka at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
