Basketball Game Preview: Loomis Wolves vs. Amherst Broncos

Loomis hasn't had much luck against Amherst recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Loomis Wolves will host the Amherst Broncos at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Loomis was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 64-60 to Overton. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (59), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tyson Essex, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Hays, who posted eight points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Amherst entered their tilt with South Loup on Saturday with ten consecutive wins dating back to last season but they'll enter their next game with 11. They really took it to South Loup for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-36 win. The Broncos pushed the score to 49-27 by the end of the third, a deficit South Loup had little chance of recovering from.

Amherst pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Loomis, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Loomis might still be hurting after the 52-32 loss they got from Amherst in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Loomis was down 35-14.
