Basketball Recap: Wicomico Picks Up 15th Straight Win at Home

Wicomico put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 59-24 win over the Pocomoke Warriors. The Indians pushed the score to 55-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warriors cut but never quite recovered from.

Wicomico was led to victory by Se'Lah Foreman and Carlisa Johnson. Foreman dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 assists, while Johnson went 11 of 19 en route to 25 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The match was Foreman's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Purnell, who posted four points along with five boards and four steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Wicomico was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Pocomoke still got an impressive performance from Donyae Washington, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Washington is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 25 games she's played dating back to last season. Joanell Leonard was another key player, putting up four points and 11 rebounds.

Wicomico's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points per game. As for Pocomoke, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Wicomico will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Decatur at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Wicomico knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Decatur likes a good challenge. As for Pocomoke, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-18 victory against Crisfield on the 20th.
