Rockingham County has gone 8-2 against Morehead recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 6:00 p.m. Rockingham County is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Rockingham County might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to McMichael, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this game were averaging 3.17 runs allowed.
Rockingham County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maci Hundly, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Chloe Furgurson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Morehead). They never let Reidsville get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory last Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Saillie Aheron made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Morehead got a massive performance out of Ella Wade, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Wade a new career-high. Brooklynn Wray was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Morehead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .857. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory got Morehead back to even at 4-4. As for Rockingham County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rockingham County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Morehead struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Rockingham County's way against Morehead when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Rockingham County made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
