Basketball Recap: El Cajon Valley Comes Up Short

El Cajon Valley played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Helix Highlanders, falling 83-32. The Braves have struggled against the Highlanders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Donovan Bryant was nothing short of spectacular for Helix: he went 9-for-15 en route to 19 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Bryant now owns an excellent 50% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Vazquez, who shot 73% from the field to rack up 18 points.

El Cajon Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Helix, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. El Cajon Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on San Ysidro at 6:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Helix, they will venture away from home to challenge Patrick Henry at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders' defense better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 58.6 points per game this season.
