Softball Game Preview: Kearns Cougars vs. Cyprus Pirates

Kearns is 0-10 against Cyprus since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Kearns Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cyprus Pirates at 3:30 p.m. Kearns has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Kearns lost 13-4 to Gunnison Valley on Saturday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kearns saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haylee Heaton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cyprus faced Syracuse in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. Cyprus fell just short of Syracuse by a score of 5-4.

Kearns' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Cyprus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Kearns' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. Kearns has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cyprus, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kearns continue to outrun the ball?

Kearns might still be hurting after the 16-2 defeat they got from Cyprus when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Kearns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
