Basketball Game Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Alexander Spartans

The Portsmouth Trojans will square off against the Alexander Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Portsmouth is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Piketon as Portsmouth made off with a 62-42 win. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alexander). They came out on top against Huntington by a score of 62-55 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Alexander pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points over those games. As for Portsmouth, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-1.

Portsmouth took a serious blow against Alexander in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, falling 55-24. Can Portsmouth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
