Brown County hasn't had much luck against South Putnam recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Brown County came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against West Vigo, falling 13-6.
Brown County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Sanders, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another was Maelyn Bowling, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, South Putnam entered their tilt with North Central on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Thunderbirds a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Pingleton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, South Putnam let Elliana Cox and Danae Cline run wild. Cox got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Cline got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Cline has posted since back in April of 2024. Pepper Rice was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
South Putnam always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Putnam's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brown County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
