Basketball Game Preview: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders

Two dominant forwards in Devaughn Dorrough and Davaughn Hueitt are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Monterey Trail Mustangs and the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Monterey Trail knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Mater Dei Catholic likes a good challenge.

Monterey Trail's tournament run continued when they took on Liberty on Friday. Monterey Trail strolled past Liberty with points to spare, taking the game 72-54. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 66th in California, while the Patriots are ranked 16th in Nevada).

Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic came up short against Mount Si on Friday and fell 67-54. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monterey Trail will have to contain Hueitt as he made an impact in Mater Dei Catholic's last game. He dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Mater Dei Catholic is undefeated when Hueitt posts ten or more rebounds, but 4-8 otherwise. Johnathan Hawthorne was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Mater Dei Catholic now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Monterey Trail, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
