Baseball Game Preview: St. Ignatius Wildcats vs. Brunswick Blue Devils

The St. Ignatius Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Brunswick Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Ignatius is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

On Friday, St. Ignatius came up short against Calvary Christian and fell 6-1.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brunswick). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lorain a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.

Jackson Briggs tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Brunswick got a massive performance out of Landon Jack, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were Jack's first of the season. Jake Tamosiunas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Brunswick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.

Brunswick has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for St. Ignatius, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

St. Ignatius came up short against Brunswick when the teams last played back in May of 2025, falling 5-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
