Volleyball Recap: Saugus Takes a Loss

Saugus lost against Swampscott back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Sachems fell 3-1 to the Big Blue. The Sachems have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

While Saugus ultimately came up short, they really made Swampscott work, particularly in the third set. The final score came out to 25-11, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22.

Loss or not, Saugus got some senior leadership from Aly Mabee and Maria Silva. Mabee had eight digs and three aces, while Silva had 14 digs and four aces. With that strong performance, Silva is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Swampscott to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marta Sirota, who had 11 digs and four aces. Jaime Andrews was another key player, getting five digs and four aces.

Saugus' defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Swampscott, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Saugus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Marblehead on the 16th. As for Swampscott, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Beverly on the 17th.
