Baseball Recap: Winters Has No Trouble Against Leakey

While Winters put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Leakey. The Winters Blizzards put the hurt on the Leakey Eagles with a sharp 16-0 win. Considering the Blizzards have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Leland Dunham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Woody Rios was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. Another player making a difference was Haydin Collins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Winters was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .720. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Winters' record now sits at 3-0-1. As for Leakey, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Winters will host Roby at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winters' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Roby's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Leakey, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Dilley at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Leakey has given up an average of 15.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
