Recap: Providence Catholic Provets vs. St. Anthony Yellowjackets
The Providence Catholic Provets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight loss. Their rough 62-37 defeat to St. Anthony might stick with them for a while. Providence Catholic has struggled against St. Anthony recently, as their game on Wednesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Lorena Serrano and Isabella Otero certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Serrano scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Otero scored nine points. Serrano continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Leading St. Anthony to victory were Lisette Vargas and Laura Sierra. Vargas scored 22 points along with five rebounds and four blocks, while Sierra dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 blocks. Sierra is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandra Vargas, who scored five points along with 13 assists and four blocks.
Providence Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for St. Anthony, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Providence Catholic will challenge San Antonio Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. San Antonio Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Providence Catholic in Texas (San Antonio Christian is ranked 379th, while Providence Catholic is ranked 1108th). As for St. Anthony, they will head out on the road to challenge TMI-Episcopal at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. TMI-Episcopal is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
