Basketball Recap: Greenville Christian Comes Up Short

Greenville Christian lost against Providence Academy back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Greenville Christian Eagles were beaten by the Providence Academy Lions 54-12. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1542nd, while the Lions are ranked 614th).

Providence Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Katie Clay led the charge by going 6 of 13 on her way to 14 points and six steals. Clay is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper McIlrath, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Greenville Christian's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Providence Academy, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Greenville Christian will venture away from home to take on Longview Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Longview Christian's defense has only allowed 22.8 points per game this season, so Greenville Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Providence Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against Temple Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
