Basketball Recap: Audrey Lincoln's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nelson Island over Chaputnguak

Nelson Island lost against Chaputnguak two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Nelson Island Islanders lost to the Chaputnguak Shaman at home by a 58-39 margin. The Islanders were down 42-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Nelson Island lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Audrey Lincoln, who posted 15 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Angaiak, who put up 13 points.

MacKenzie Larsen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chaputnguak, putting up 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Helen Larsen, who scored 11 points.

Nelson Island dropped their record down to 6-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Chaputnguak, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, Nelson Island and Chaputnguak will both be playing Ayaprun the next time they take the court. Chaputnguak will head out to face Ayaprun on Saturday, while Nelson Island will play them later in the day, at 3:30 p.m.
