Basketball Game Preview: Elgin Maroons vs. Plainfield South Cougars

The Elgin Maroons will head out on the road to challenge the Plainfield South Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Elgin has now lost 16 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 23.

Elgin is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against West Chicago on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Elgin came up short against West Chicago, falling 49-28. The Maroons were down 40-20 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, Plainfield South beat Joliet Central 59-46 on Tuesday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Steelmen are ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for Plainfield South and bumps their season record up to 18-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-27.
