Baseball Recap: Bentworth Comes Up Short

Bentworth extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the California Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-6 on Monday.

Nolan Anderson led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Jacob Cavanaugh was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for California, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On California's side, the team relied heavily on Chase Shemansky, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Shemansky a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Weston Monticelli, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

While Bentworth had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
