It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilson Prep had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the Northside - Pinetown Panthers to the tune of 52-22. Considering the Tigers have won seven games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Travon Usher was his usual excellent self, rushing for 152 yards and one TD while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Wilson Prep is 7-3 when Usher posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.
Usher was just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 351 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Wilson Prep's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.2 points over those games. As for Northside - Pinetown, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 12-1.
Coming up, after each having a week off, Wilson Prep and Robbinsville will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another on December 11.
