Recap: Axtell Longhorns vs. Troy Trojans
It was a good run, but the Axtell Longhorns unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 55-37 bruising from Troy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Axtell came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Troy is ranked 513th).
Despite the loss, Axtell saw an underclassman step up: Levi Leathers scored 17 points. Leathers scored a full 45.9% of Axtell's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coldyn Horn, who scored 6 points.
Axtell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Troy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Alvarado the next time they take the court. Troy will head out to face Alvarado at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Axtell will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
