Volleyball Recap: Lutheran Falls Short Against Ranked Howell North

Lutheran faced Howell North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars came up short against the Knights, falling 3-0. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Lutheran was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-21.

Kemp North paced Lutheran's offense, picking up eight kills. North got some help from Charlie Bennett and his 20 assists. Finally, Bennett was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

The loss snapped Lutheran's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-5 record. As for Howell North, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Lutheran and Howell North will both be playing Hickman the next time they take the court. The Knights will host the Kewpies at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Cougars will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
