Recap: La Jolla Vikings vs. Rancho Bernardo Broncos
The La Jolla Vikings had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Rancho Bernardo 42-14 on the road. The result was nothing new for La Jolla, who have now won five games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Jackson Diehl was his usual excellent self, rushing for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Diehl has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Aidan Mcgill also helped out as he racked up 148 rushing yards.
La Jolla's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In that department, Sawyer Moseley was the leader with two sacks.
Despite the loss, Rancho Bernardo saw an underclassman step up: Hugo Gonzalez rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. Gonzalez's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.
The victory (which was La Jolla's eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.3 points per game. As for Rancho Bernardo, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
La Jolla will square off against Del Norte at 7:00 p.m. on November 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Del Norte is ranked 108th, while La Jolla is ranked 125th). Rancho Bernardo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
