The
Kell (Marietta, Ga.) standout dominated last week's star-studded University of Kentucky High School Invitational by not only winning three events, but setting personal records in two of them.
The 5-foot-9 Williams won the girls 60-meter hurdles in
8.61 seconds (her best ever is 8.49), the long jump at 19 feet, 8 ¾ inches and the high jump at 5 feet, 8 ½ inches.
Another super sophomore, Kendall Baisden of
Detroit Country Day (Beverly Hills, Mich.), captured the 400 in 54.43.
Middletown (Del.) senior Marquis Dendy overcame ankle soreness to win the triple jump at 51-1 ½, but fouled three times and finished fourth in the talent-laden long jump. Tyler Anderson of
Hillsboro (Nashville, Tenn.) won the long jump at 23-6 ¼.
Loyola Blakefield (Towson, Md.) distance star Matt Jablonski won the mile (4:13.89) and two-mile (9:23.39). On the girls side, Gabi Anzalone of
Grand Blanc (Mich.) matched Jablonski with victories in the mile (4:59.7) and two-mile (10:49). Jennifer Madu of
Plano East (Texas) also won a pair of events, capturing the 60 in 7.53 and the triple jump at 38-1 ½.
MYKKELE THOMPSON LONG JUMPS 25-2 TO BREAK 49-YEAR-OLD RECORDSenior Mykkele Thompson of
Stevens (San Antonio) broke a 49-year-old city record when he leaped an outstanding 25-2 to win the long jump during the South San Invitational. The previous record was 24-7 ½ and his previous career best was 24-3. Thompson will concentrate on football next fall at the University of Texas.
JACOB DOMINATES RHODE ISLANDChariho (Wood River Junction, R.I.) senior Innocent Jacob dominated the Rhode Island indoor state track meet before a capacity crowd estimated at 2,200 in Providence and was named the most outstanding performer.
Despite nursing a sore left knee, the 5-8 star won the high jump at 6-10 and the long jump at 23-8. He also finished sixth in the 55.
Bishop Hendricken (Warwick, R.I.) won its 17th consecutive team championship with 74 points. It marked the 50th overall title for Jim Doyle during his 27-year coaching career.

LaSalle Academy (Providence, R.I.) won its fifth straight championship with 65 points. LaSalle junior Dakota Dailey-Harris high jumped 5-7 to set a state record.
Hope (Providence, R.I.) junior Royal Cheatham stood out with victories in the long jump (18-11), 55 (record 7.23 seconds) and the 300 (41.07). She also ran the opening leg on the winning 4x200-meter relay (1:45.04).
BIG DAY FOR SYDNEY CONLEYFayetteville (Ark.) senior Sydney Conley set state indoor records by winning the girls 60 in 7.6 seconds and the long jump at 19 feet. Then she topped off her busy day by collecting eight points and six rebounds a few hours later as her basketball team defeated Northside (Fort Smith, Ark.), 61-44.
