Baseball Recap: Silver Stage Comes Up Short

Silver Stage extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They lost 9-2 to the Yerington Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Tuesday.

Blayne Baratti Butler was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Yerington, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Yerington's side, Valor Angle made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Angle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Martinez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Colby Rowe, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Yerington beat Silver Stage by a score of 15-0 later that day.
