Baseball Game Preview: John Marshall Monarchs vs. Morgantown Mohigans

John Marshall is 1-9 against Morgantown since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Monarchs will take on the Mohigans at 5:30 p.m.

John Marshall is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Spring Valley.

Hunter Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. He is becoming a predictor of John Marshall's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

At the plate, John Marshall saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Markonich, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Morgantown faced Jefferson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mohigans walked away with a 3-0 win over the Cougars.

The result came thanks to Lucas Shinn's shutout, as he gave up just three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eli Boggs, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

John Marshall now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Morgantown, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-6.

John Marshall couldn't quite finish off Morgantown when the teams last played last Wednesday and fell 3-1. Can the Monarchs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
