Baseball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

If Pioneer was riding high fresh off their 18-3 takedown of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pioneer Diamondbacks took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clark Cougars on Thursday.

Alexis Lopez and Ben Martinez did some serious damage despite the final result: Lopez went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Martinez went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Lopez launched this season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Pioneer lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

Pioneer now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Clark, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Coming up, Pioneer will be taking part in a tournament against Cinco Ranch at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Clark, they will head out to take on Episcopal at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
