Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain Has No Trouble Against Pershing County

Battle Mountain hadn't beaten Pershing County on the road since April 29, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Longhorns blew past the Mustangs 13-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-2 on Tuesday.

Jacob Perrone was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has become a key player for Battle Mountain: the team is undefeated when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 6-10 otherwise. Perrone was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Lara, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Battle Mountain is 3-1 when Lara posts three or more hits, but 6-9 otherwise. Liam Bundrock also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.

Battle Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Battle Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Pershing County, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Battle Mountain beat the Mustangs by a score of 8-6 later that day.
