Soccer Game Preview: Centennial vs. Walnut Grove

The Centennial Titans will take on the Walnut Grove Wildcats on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Centennial sitting on six straight wins and Walnut Grove on ten.

Centennial is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Turner a 1-0 shutout. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Turner are ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Walnut Grove challenged Lufkin on Thursday. Walnut Grove put the hurt on Lufkin with a sharp 5-0 victory. Considering Walnut Grove have won 15 contests by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Lufkin with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Christian Nardelli (2), Mason Kutch, Antonie Van Tonder, and Wheeler Clayton.

Centennial's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matches. As for Walnut Grove, their win bumped their record up to 20-0-2.
