Softball Recap: Westfield Takes a Loss

Westfield came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Greenfield-Central Cougars by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Shamrocks in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost seven in a row.

Westfield got a good showing from Mackenzie Delph, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave Delph a new career-low.

At the plate, Sofia Easterhaus was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Ava Kainrath also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Westfield now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Greenfield-Central, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2.

Coming up, Westfield will take on Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Irish will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Shamrocks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Greenfield-Central, they are taking a road trip to square off against Columbus East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Olympians have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
