Softball Game Preview: Highland Park Scots vs. Wakeland Wolverines

The Highland Park Scots will challenge the Wakeland Wolverines at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Highland Park: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Wakeland has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.

Things were looking good for Highland Park after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Turner by a score of 6-5.

Meanwhile, Wakeland never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Newman Smith as they made off with a 12-0 win. Considering the Wolverines have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayla Courcy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Claire Schreiner was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Sanchez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Wakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newman Smith only posted an OBP of .071.

Wakeland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
