Softball Game Preview: Medway Mustangs vs. Holliston Panthers

The Medway Mustangs will head out to square off against the Holliston Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Holliston took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Medway, who comes in off a win.

Medway took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over Ashland. The contest marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.

Medfield hit Holliston with a six-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 8-7. Even though they lost, the Panthers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Emily Hegerich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Claire Radcliffe and Grace Schoenberg did some serious damage despite the final result: Radcliffe went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Schoenberg went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That triple was Radcliffe's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Harris, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

The win got Medway back to even at 5-5. As for Holliston, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Medway took their victory against Holliston when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
