Softball Game Preview: Madison Mavericks vs. O'Connor Panthers

The Madison Mavericks will square off against the O'Connor Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Madison's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over SA Roosevelt. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

Meanwhile, O'Connor came tearing into last Thursday's game with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 15-4 victory. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly 11 runs.

Lexie Ganter and Amiya Jasso did most of the damage at the plate: Ganter went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Jasso went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maraceli Gonzales, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

O'Connor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

O'Connor's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
