Football Recap: Sanderson Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Sanderson lost against Cardinal Gibbons back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Spartans were dealt a 71-13 defeat at the hands of the Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Crusaders are ranked eighth).

Despite the loss, Sanderson still got an impressive performance from Ben Young III, who rushed for 95 yards and one score on only 12 carries.

Conner Lindsey was nothing short of spectacular for Cardinal Gibbons: he threw for 328 yards and six touchdowns while completing 92.9% of his passes. Those 328 passing yards gave Lindsey a new career-high. Connor McGeehan did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards.

Sanderson has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Cardinal Gibbons, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Sanderson will challenge Mount Zion Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Chase Bowie and Sherrad Bennard III. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will square off against Cary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
